Description
MATLAB code that allows the user to perform on a matrix A (with rational coefficients) Gaussian elimination: successive elementary row operations until getting a matrix in row echelon form (r.e.f.), reduced (r.r.e.f.) or not. At each step of the process, the code shows the actual position of the pivot (which is used to “clean” its column, that is, to make equal to zero its elements distinct from the pivot) and very often presents a couple of options for an elementary row operation, maybe those more natural, from which the user has to choose one: the purpose is to help the users to internalise the way of proceeding in order to learn finally how to use Gaussian elimination by themselves.
